What does it mean when the texture of your cats fur changes?

My cats fur has gone through some kind of change. It doesn't feel right, it now has a weird texture. It's not soft anymore, feels wierd to pet her. Does anyone know what it means? What does it mean when the texture of your cats fur changes?
Your vet uses the condition and changes in your kitty's fur as an indicator of illnesses, just as our skin gives hints of what is happening with us.

If we were going into the cool to colder months, I would think this may be her winter coat, which usually has a coarser feel.

You don't say how old she is or if she has any known health problems. I had a kitty that was diabetic and the look and feel of her fur was my first indicator when her blood sugar was out of control. Likewise, hyperthyroid kitties have scraggly and unkempt looking coats.

If your kitty has not had a wellness examination recently, it might be a good idea to schedule one just to be sure.

Purrs to you and kitty. What does it mean when the texture of your cats fur changes?
I've noticed that a cat's fur gets a coarse texture if they have worms. My mom first pointed this out to me, because it was something she had learned from having cats, and I've found it to be true time and time again. This has happened multiple times, both with my own cats and once when I was cat-sitting for a friend who was out of the country. The cat's fur would feel oddly coarse, at some point I would notice that the cat had worms, and give them something for the worms. Once they had been treated for the worms, their fur became softer and normal-feeling.

Occasionally, while visiting other people who have cats, I'll notice that their cats' fur feels rather coarse, and wouldn't you know it, but they have worms. You can tell for sure if a cat has worms if you see a worm coming out the cat's butt hole. Nasty, but true.

That is one possibility to consider.
Have you changed it's food?? Some food has better vitamins and such in it which will make a coat silky and shiny. Also it is shedding season so it could be a summer coat . Or if she could have rolled in something gross and it's stuck in her fur.
I know their coat feels strange when they are not getting enough to eat or having good nutrition. The strays we rescued would feel rough at first. But your cat suddenly feeling different could be he's sick. You should take him to the vet and see if everythings alright.
She might just be dirty/greasy and need a bath and good brushing out, depending on if she is short/long haired.

also changes in climate/temperature.
MAYBE IT JUST NEEDS A BATH. TAKE HER TO A VETS, OR A GROOMERS. IF IT DOESN'T ACT OR LOOK RIGHT OTHERWISE, HE MIGHT HAVE FELINE DIABETES.
This could be a sign of a health problem that should be check by your vet.
