How do I decoupage onto canvas so that the texture of the canvas will show through?

I'd like to be able to put a computer print-out on canvas so that it looks like it was printed on canvas in the first place- is this possible? How do I decoupage onto canvas so that the texture of the canvas will show through?
Option 1:

Take your digital file to a printer that does large format printing on canvas. You'll b able to find a printer in the phone book. They normally also do trade show displays, and enviroment graphics.

Have them print the work on canvas with a Gicl茅e printer (This makes the ink last a long time) or a cheaper alternative if you don't care about archival quality. You can either frame the canvas or stretch it on stretcher bars. The printer might even stretch the canvas onto stretcher bars for you.

Option 2:

Make a color copy of what ever it is you want to put on the canvas.

Get yourself some matte acrylic gel medium. and paint thin layers of it on the color copied image drying in between coats.

After you've built up a thin layer of gel medium get the paper side of the gel/paper sheet wet and carefully peel off the paper backing.

Now coat the canvas with gel medium and lay the gel medium transfer on the layer of gel medium on the canvas.

Coat more gel medium over the transfer to seal it in.

Option 3:

You can do printable iron-on transfers if your canvas is unprimed. Be sure to coat it with a clear coat afterward. Hodge Podge or gel medium.

y'know...i think angie j has the right answers...they all would work. so i give her a thumbs up.
You should try with a little one first but I thought of this. A few months ago I printed something on white tissue gift wrap (that very thin paper). I had to stick it to a normal sheet with a glue stick (just on the borders) and it printed very well! Then you just stick it to your canvas with liquid glue or mod podge. Hope this helps!
