How can I use a photo as texture in Illustrator?

I currently have a vector image in Illustrator but I'm wanting to experiment with real photos as texture. I think theirs a way by exporting it into Photoshop, but I'm not sure. Any advise? How can I use a photo as texture in Illustrator?
To get your Illustrator image into Photoshop, just go to File%26gt;Place and put it on a layer by itself for greatest clarity and flexibility. You will need to render the layer (rasterize) in order to work with the blending options. Have your photographic texture on the layer directly beneath.
